Built on the framework of the original HAA Calibration Wizard as a checklist/report-based based workflow, the CinemaTools with HAA Link app has an expanded suite of precision analysis tests and a new level of process flexibility. HAA CinemaTools with HAA Link was built specifically for the professional audio calibrator.

CinemaTools is the result of years of real world testing and in depth collaboration with Studio Six Digital well known for the ground breaking AudioTools analysis package. It brings the most sophisticated tools created by Studio Six Digital and a host of brand new analysis tools developed specifically for professional immersive audio systems.

HAA As its name implies, HAA CinemaTools with HAA Link was built from the ground up as the home of the new HAA Link real-time calibration protocol. HAA Link is designed to be integrated into HAA Certified AVRs and pre-pro units, and. It is currently available in the Audio Control Hyperion advanced processor. Calibrators can access the protocol by purchasing an HAA Link unlock for each unit.

The powerful Analysis Suite is available as an in-app purchase for $149. The true power of CinemaTools with HAA Link lies in the unique workflow where calibration adjustments via HAA Link are monitored in real-time using the Analysis Suite. The Analysis Suite can also be used as a powerful tool for any calibration, even without HAA Link.

Design Review

The Analysis Suite main page is the Design Review. This full featured drawing allows the calibrator to see critical layout relationships we call the Acoustical Framework. Each element of the framework is entered, and at a glance, the current status plus opportunities for improvement are clear. Click on the image for a better view.

The dynamic room plan serves as the central workspace:
Tap any element (speaker, screen, seating row) to access its parameter editor
Drag elements to reposition with live angle and distance recalculation

In HAA CinemaTools, all of the calibration tools are instantly accessible from a menu on the main screen. Setup the screen overlays as needed, and then bring up any of the calibration tools.

Screen & Seating Design
The Screen Review module provides precise control over projection screen placement and seating geometry. Configure image width, height, and aspect ratio (1.78:1, 2.35:1, 2.37:1, 2.39:1) with real-time visualization of SMPTE RP 197 viewing distance guidelines—showing 2×, 3×, and 4× image height boundaries directly on the room plan.

Seating Configuration:
Multi-row support with independent row positioning

MLP (Main Listening Position) row designation
Toggle between Top View and Side View to verify both horizontal coverage and vertical sight lines.

Loudspeaker Layout & Coverage Analysis
The LCR Angles module visualizes speaker placement geometry with calculated angles to the listening position. Position front LCR speakers by separation distance and offset from front wall, with real-time angle calculation to each seat.
LCR Configuration:
Left/Right separation distance
LCR distance from front wall
Calculated LR angle to MLP (with reference presets: 45°, 53°, 60°)
Lock controls to constrain angles, LCR positions, or row positions during adjustments
Surround Speaker Angles: The room view displays calculated angles for all speaker positions relative to the listening position:
Side surrounds (typically ±70° to ±110°
Rear surrounds (±135° to ±150°)
Height/overhead channels with vertical angle notation (e.g., 35°V, 65°V)
Speaker icons are interactive—tap to edit parameters or drag to reposition. The coverage overlay shows the acoustic coverage triangle from LCR to the listening area, helping identify potential imaging issues before measurement.

Subwoofer Positioning & Room Mode Visualization
The Position Review module addresses low-frequency optimization with interactive subwoofer placement and room mode visualization.

Subwoofer Parameters:
X and Y distance from room corner
Multiple subwoofer support
Visual representation of subwoofer location on room plan

Mode Map Display: The room view overlays axial room modes as colored bands—both lateral (wall-to-wall) and longitudinal (front-to-back) modes are shown, allowing you to identify nodal and anti-nodal regions. Position subwoofers and seating to minimize the impact of modal peaks and nulls at the listening position.
Room dimensions are displayed (e.g., 12.0 × 14.0 ft) with mode calculations based on actual room geometry.

Workflow Checklist

HAA TurboCal and PowerCal Checklists

Pre-built workflows that maximize your time and effort. The TurboCal is your everyday checklist. It’s designed to allow a calibration in under two hours, perfect for the common AVR setups for smaller systems. PowerCal is designed for the bigger jobs that will take a few or sometimes many hours. It’s the best choice for a high end immersive system especially if you are calibrating an HAA Link certified product.

8 Octave RT60 Analysis

Reverberation Time (RT) Analysis

HAA CinemaTools includes a remarkable tool for measuring reverberation time (RT60) for each octave with a single measurement. While RT is technically not a calibratable parameter of a room, this analysis can be instrumental in defining the acoustical environment. This data can be used to make recommendations for refining the acoustical treatment strategy and is essential information if consulting with an acoustician.

Transfer Function (Phase Response)

Get magnitude, phase, coherence plots for precision phase alignment and it’s real-time with any program material. An advanced Pro feature that now works on every channel. Click on image for a better view.

Transfer Function

An audio transfer function is a mathematical, dual-channel measurement (comparing input and output) that maps how an audio system, device, or room changes a sound signal, specifically defining the frequency, phase, and amplitude relationship between them.

Magnitude Graph
The magnitude graph is used to show the difference between the reference signal and the test signal. Typically, the reference signal is pink noise, although you can also use mono program material (music) and still get good results.
The graph auto-centers around the 0 dB axis, so it’s easy to see how the test signal differs from the reference signal.

Phase Graph
The phase graph shows the relative phase of the signal, and is useful for setting crossover points.

Coherence Graph
The coherence graph is used as a measure of the reliability of a set of averaged transfer function measurements. 100% would mean that you are seeing highly correlated graphs, and thus the information on the magnitude and phase graphs would be accurate.

Coherence Blanking
It may be useful to only display transfer function plot data when the coherence is above a certain threshold. This helps you know that the information being shown is reliable. To do this, you can set a coherence blanking threshold in percent, on the setup screen.
When the blanking threshold is greater than 0, plot data will only be shown that has a corresponding coherence greater than the threshold.

Ambient Noise (NC,NCB)

NCB is an important element in sound quality. The CinemaTools NCB test is quick and easy to use. Click on image for a better view.

Launching the Ambient Noise Test displays an RTA histogram plot showing the SPL of each octave.
The Noise Criteria Balanced Curves are shown to indicate the “NCB” of each octave.
The test should be conducted with all equipment on and the volume turned down on the AVR.
Internal noise producers such as the HVAC system, rack fans, and projector should be on.
Any unwanted noise from the speakers such as hum or hiss should be noted; perhaps there’s a solution.
External noise should be noted as well such as traffic noise and sounds from other rooms but this requires a more in depth solution.
A good approach is to pause the test and make sure no one speaks or moves about. Then hit play to resume and finalize.

Energy Time Analysis (ETC)

ETC (Energy Time Curve)
The Energy Time Curve displays acoustic energy arrival over time, revealing the impulse response characteristics of the room and speaker system. ETC analysis is essential for understanding reflection patterns and optimizing speaker placement.

Any Pro Calibrator will tell you, the most frustrating part of calibrating is combining the series of measurement screen shots and data collected into a logical report. Many calibrators use multiple instruments which are often not collected on the same device. HAA CinemaTools allows the you to use one device with all precision measurements in one place on one device. You can make any number of measurements through your analysis process, then select the final measurements adding them to the report with the tap of a button.

When connected to an HAA Certified AVR or Pre-Pro (hardware or demo mode), the Link Controls button provides real-time access to channel parameters without leaving the measurement view:

Verifies absolute and relative polarity of loudspeakers and individual drivers. Correct polarity is critical for proper stereo imaging, surround envelopment, and bass response—especially in systems with multiple subwoofers.

Impedance Sweep

Impedance Sweep

An important diagnostic tool used for loudspeaker impedance testing. The Impedance Sweep creates a plot of impedance over a frequency range. This test requires the Studio Six Digital iAudioInterface2 and a special test cable. Both are part of the HAA Calibration kit or can be purchase separately.

This tool is valuable to determine proper speaker and even cable function. Some calibrators do this test as a required pre-installation “lemon test”, but it’s always handy when trouble-shooting anomalies during a calibration.

Scratch Pad

Scratch Pad

Scratchpad is a powerful way to compare multiple plots and select the best one.
You add plots to the Scratchpad when you touch the “+” control. You can see the time/stamp or the custom label you created in the Scratch Tests area.
You can take multiple tests/measurements, compare them, then select the best by viewing it and selecting the “Set” control at the bottom.
The current selected test is shown under the “Selected Test” label.
You can pick any test/plot and compare it to the selected test.
The “All” control is useful in tests where the end result is to overlay multiple plots such as the Nearfield checklist item. Selecting it again clears the plot screen.
You can delete any plot using the trash can icon or you can delete all tests/plots using the “Delete All” control on the top.
The edit icon allows you to change any plots caption.
