Training Reviews

HAA has been providing the best audio and acoustical training in the custom industry for 20 years. The training began as a 2-day technical course on audio design and calibration and has expanded to be the most comprehensive technical training found anywhere. The improvements have been made through incremental changes over the years identifying ways we can teach concepts better and adding new scientific information as it is developed. This is proven training and has never been better. Come see why we have the best satisfaction results from students. HAA delivers and its worth every penny.

  • In depth technical explanations geared for an integrator to become an expert or the expert to become the best!
  • Learn the latest state-of-the-art techniques to design acoustically perfected listening rooms including correct speaker, seating, sub-woofer, and acoustical treatment placement; there’s more here than just angles and rules-of-thumb. Learn to adapt based on the room!
  • Follow-on support via the HAA community and web portals.
  • Time tested and recommended training with new ideas for maximizing sonic performance: HAA has been training integrators for many years.
  • An introduction to professional listening techniques in the Integrator Workshop.

HAA Level One (HT1 Certification): This all new online class teaches the fundamentals of proper Home Theater acoustical design principles providing the central requirements of a high-performance design based upon state-of-the-art scientific research and extensive field experience.  It is presented by CEDIA Academy and must be completed prior to the in-person portion of the class.  The concept of the “Acoustical Framework” is introduced as the central design concept explaining the importance of all acoustical elements in achieving a delicate balance based on their inter dependency. The list of guiding metrics of design success are also introduced with discussions of how the acoustical framework and acoustical treatment strategy can be understood to be the central controls of performance. The course lays the groundwork for further more advanced understanding of small room acoustics by introducing the student to the most important industry acoustical terms and their technical descriptions providing an important grounding for the Professional. It’s ideal as an introduction to small room acoustics for all professionals, but it offers totally new insights on high performance design for more advanced students as well. It’s also a must-attend class for theater designers, AV sales people, project managers, and every integrator. We’ll discuss professional design requirements for room construction and room layout including the proper positioning of seating, speakers, sub-woofers and acoustical treatment. There’s new ideas here that you likely haven’t heard about. While the material is technical, the class will focus on creating a clear understanding using basic terminology and discuss ways for integrating proper acoustical design with modern interior design preferences using classroom discussions of real world design challenges, best practices for client discussions, and how technical excellence and knowledge can drive business goals.

Prepares you for follow on training:

HAA Level Two and TurboCal Workshop (HT2 Certification): This in-person class is an advanced how-to design/calibrate class evenly split between class room training and a hands-on workshop. While created for  integrators, it is great for designers, project managers, and even enthusiasts.  The class leverages the HT Design principles introduced in the HT Adviser class with more technical explanations and examples. It discusses acoustical principles to create a deeper understanding of HAA design standards aiming to prepare the student with better problem solving skills. The class includes the HAA TurboCal Workshop designed to start you running with an efficient and practical audio calibration process; we will calibrate a live system during the workshop. Training high points include learning how to use an FFT and RTA analyzer, how to be a pro listener, calibration documentation, advanced sub-woofer calibration, speaker and seating placement, and designing a practical acoustical treatment strategy. Prerequisite is previous HAA HT1 Adviser class attendance within the past year.  Don’t forget there are discounts for retaking classes for current HAA Members.

HAA Level Three (HT3 Certification): This in-person workshop is an all hands-on session designed to bring all the prerequisite training to the test. This class pulls all the information and techniques from the prerequisite classes into a fantastic review and cements the concepts for the most complete understanding.  The student is teamed with no more than 5 others who are tasked to incrementally design and calibrate a high performance system. Nothing less than amazing results are allowed. The team is asked to complete the HAA PowerCal process including several eye-opening instructor led learning sessions conducted with your audio system. You’ll understand subwoofer placement, room modal analysis, speaker/seating placement and acoustical treatment design from both a theoretical and experiential point of view. Our rule is that nothing is changed without measuring and hearing the difference. This class will change your perspective on audio and open up a new opportunity in building high performance systems.  Prerequisite is previous HAA HT2 Integrator class attendance within the past year.

THX and HAA

THX and HAA have always shared a common vision about technical guidelines and the value of understanding the science of home cinema acoustics.  In fact, HAA was originally inspired by a need to take the acoustical design requirements of THX into an advanced workshop setting providing more in-depth training for professional integrators.  The best practices and requirements of both organizations have always been in sync.  As HAA also partnered with CEDIA (Custom Electronic Design and Installation Association) since 2020, the best home cinema training can be found in one place.

The new THX Level One is a great combination of fascinating information on THX and the fundamentals of designing a great home cinema.  It is highly recommended not only as an entry point for advanced certification for integrators but as a valuable primer for interior designers, project managers, sales staff, and anyone interfacing with clients pondering a home cinema.  It’s extremely interesting and provides necessary insight for anyone involved in the industry.

The THX Level One is an introductory seminar focusing on cinema design and acoustical fundamentals from the THX perspective.  It will also cover the contributions by THX to the advancement of video and sound reproduction in the consumer electronics world.  Created in 1986, THX is credited with bringing many of the design and calibration concepts it developed for movie studios and commercial cinemas to consumer products.  Many of the elements we find in current audio products were first introduced by THX.  It’s fair to say they revolutionized the sound quality possible in the home cinema.

In addition to the knowledge presented by the THX Level One class, students can earn THX Level One certification achieved by online testing.  Successful students will be allowed to use the THX Adviser logo in their business and be found on the THX Professional Installer database.  This also allows them to enter the HAA Advanced training track by taking the HAA Level Two and HAA Level Three workshops.  Successful completion of each workshop will earn students the corresponding THX Level Two then THX Level Three certifications and the right to use their respective logos.

What to bring: You are welcome to bring your laptop and test gear for tool specific advice, but it is not used in the class: Laptops and test gear will be provided.  Workshops use the AudioTools Audio Analysis package for iPad and the HAA Audio Calibrator Kit.

Lunch is provided but lodging and travel are not.  Cancellations are not allowed within 30 days of the event. Refunds are not possible but an effort will be made to accommodate you in the next available class within one year.
