HAA Portal frequently asked questions.
What do I need to do to make sure my HAA Profile is properly set up?
You can go to the HAA Portal Readiness Checklist to see the key points recommended for your best presentation of your services.
How do I update my Profile?
Once you are registered as a member, you should see the “My Profile” link on the right sidebar. Click it and scan the page for the “Edit Profile” button. It will only be visible to you. From there you can make any desired change. Keep in mind only HAA “Certified” Pro members will be shown on the “Dealer Locator” or the “Pro Member Directory“.
How do I add my Avatar?
You can access the change Avatar feature by editing your Profile as discussed above. Adding a professional Avatar is very important. The blank picture which is the default is not a very welcoming advertisement. Think of your Pro Member Profile as an ad for your services. A good head shot is best but you can add any personalized image.
Can I create my own Discussion Group?
Yes, you can create your own discussion group and invite other members and HAA community “friends” to join. Click the Discussion Groups link on the right sidebar then select “Create Discussion Group”. Keep in mind that your group will be public and any member can join it. If you wish to create a private group where members who request to join are screened by you, you can easily set the group to be Private by editing it. All discussion groups are subject to the HAA Portal Terms of Service Agreement and are subject to cancellation without notice by the HAA Portal Administrator.
I am an AV Pro but I work with a manufacturer (or design firm, Rep firm, etc.) can I join as a Pro member?
Yes, you can join. The best way to become a Pro member is to get certified by the HAA. There are class sessions held around the year in various locations. If you are not certified, you can still join as a Pro, but as an Associate Member. Request access by first, joining as an HAA Pro Candidate (click or use the “Join” link on the top menu) and follow up by requesting to join as an Associate Pro member at admin@homeacoustics.net; this is a paid membership. We’ll need references and a brief description of your background including the number of years you’ve been a Pro.
I used to have an HAA Membership on the old website, can I rejoin the HAA?
If you already have HAA Certifications or a previous associate membership, you probably already have a log in. Try using your email address as the username (keep in mind that it is the email address you used when you originally took the HAA training or joined the HAA). The password will be the same password you used in the old HAA website. If all that fails contact us and we’ll get you a login.
I am already a Certified Pro Member but I don’t want my location on the Dealer Locator, can I remove it?
Yes, you can remove your listing from the Dealer Locator by editing your Profile (see the first question); just clear all location fields from the Edit Location box. Alternately to retain your HAA Certification, you can generalize the location by only including the city, state, and country, leaving your actual address blank. Keep in mind the only way anyone can confirm your HAA Certification is via the Dealer Locator. IMPORTANT: The billing and shipping addresses shown in your My Account page are NOT made public (don’t erase this information), only the location shown in your Profile is public and it is in a completely independent database. You have full control over what is made public.
I understand that my previous HAA training can earn me discounts on retaking classes, how do I find my discounts?
Just click on the Register button found on various training pages. Your discounts are shown on the bottom of the page or click here; Register for Training. Discounts are dependent on your certification level and are on classes you’ve already taken.
How do I cancel my membership?
I hate to think of any of our members (all of which I have met and know) would want to leave the HAA. It’s important to understand that membership in the HAA is how you keep your certification in force. Consumers and Enthusiasts are instructed to use our Pro Search feature or Dealer Locator to confirm that a member is in fact HAA Certified. Also use of any of the HAA logos requires HAA membership. If you do elect to cancel; go to your “My Account” page and find your Membership Level. Next to the membership level will be a “cancel” link. Click it and you will be removed from the Dealer Locator and Directory. Any subscriptions you have will end based upon your “paid up to” date. You can easily rejoin later since your membership will still allow you to log in at any time as an “expired” member, however your access to Pro sections of the site and your use of HAA logos and certifications will be restricted.
I’d like to assist at a class, I heard this can be done without paying for the registration.
Help is always welcome at classes, but you need to make sure you’ve been a student of the craft for some time. That means you need to have demonstrated an added motivation to develop your craft. You need to be Advanced Certified (HAA Level II or HT3 Advanced Calibrator). We’ll always welcome and appreciate your desire to help set up a class or visit a class no matter what your certification level, but to be a student assistant working with the class you need to demonstrate dedication and proficiency. Our best HAA Pro’s and Certified Assistant Instructors came back to class as a student retaking the class often more than once (there is a hefty discount for Advanced Pros). Your goal after enough time perfecting your knowledge and skills, is to be promoted to be an HAA Certified Assistant Instructor and from there becoming a HAA Certified Expert Instructor. This won’t happen overnight or with a single class. Please contact Gerry Lemay at lemay@homeacoustics.net if you want to take this next step.
How do I update the credit card used for my membership or extended payment subscription?
From time to time we all get new credit cards. This change usually causes us to get emails from all the companies you set up auto-pay with. If this happened with HAA, this link explains how you can update your HAA account with your latest credit card info for membership subscriptions and extended payments for training: Updating Your Credit Card
