It is common and generally recommended to have a high quality carpet on the floor, however limiting carpeted areas to less than ~60% can be beneficial.
In large rooms or rooms with tall ceilings carpeting is also generally recommended but adding absorption to the ceiling can compensate for a lack of carpeting or high RT.
If carpeting is limited, it is beneficial to have it in the front portion of the room. This can also help reduce light reflected from the screen from a reflective floor.
