Is it possible to use a Wireless speaker system to build a Home Theatre? Which Wireless technology has a better sound quality? (1 reply)
There are many different technologies for wireless speakers. Most are proprietary standards based on the use of WiFi. Bluetooth has become popular because of the ease of use but it is not useful for home theater because of channel limitations and lesser quality. For home theater there is the problem of quality (depends on the technology), and control of latency (this complicates time delay settings). There are technologies that have been developed to create a true high performance standard. A promising technology that has already been adopted by several high end manufacturers is called WISA http://www.wisaassociation.org/ This system incorporates the required high performance elements plus well managed latency to allow proper time delay settings. It is not compatible (at this time) with Atmos or DTS:X, however there are companies who have developed their own technology to do this: https://www.cepro.com/article/damson_s_series_first_dolby_atmos_wireless_surround_system_multiroom_audio
For the time being, for high performance immersive audio, you'll have to run wires.
